Common UHBVN bill traps

UHBVN doesn't cover Gurgaon or Faridabad

Haryana's two discoms are split north/south, not by a single statewide company. If your connection is in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hisar or Rewari, your actual discom is DHBVN, not UHBVN — both share the same HERC tariff shown here.

The cheap starting slabs end quickly

UHBVN's first two slabs (₹2.20 and ₹2.70) are unusually cheap, but the rate rises sharply after 100–150 units — a bill can jump noticeably once you're past the protected low-use bands.

FPPCA surcharge and duty aren't in this estimate

Haryana's fuel and power purchase cost adjustment and electricity duty are not modelled, so your real UHBVN bill will run a little higher than this calculator shows.

How the UHBVN bill is calculated

A split low-use vs high-use structure

Haryana keeps the first two slabs very cheap (₹2.20 and ₹2.70) to protect low-use households, then rises sharply for higher consumption. UHBVN and DHBVN follow the same HERC schedule.

How the Haryana bill is calculated

Haryana domestic supply is billed monthly. Consumption is split across telescopic slabs from ₹2.2 to ₹6.45/unit, each band charged at its own rate. A fixed charge of ₹120 per kW of sanctioned load applies.

Your bill, component by component

Based on the 200-unit example above. Expand each line for what it means and whether you can influence it.

Energy chargeReducible₹770.00+

Priced across telescopic slabs — the more you use, the higher the marginal rate. Shifting usage below your next slab threshold lowers this line directly. This example totals ₹770.00.

Fuel cost adjustment (FCA)Set by DISCOM₹0.00+

A ₹0/unit pass-through surcharge that tracks the DISCOM's power-purchase cost. It applies equally to every consumer on this tariff and isn't something you can reduce by changing usage.

Fixed chargeFixed₹360.00+

Charged regardless of how many units you use (₹120/kW × 3 kW). The only way to change this line is to change your phase, sanctioned load, or connection type.

How to read your meter

Digital meters show a running total in kWh ("units") on an LCD display — write down the number before the decimal point. To find your consumption for a billing period, subtract your previous reading from your current reading; that is exactly what the "Meter reading" mode in the calculator above does for you. Analog meters use a set of dial gauges read left to right — note the number the pointer has just passed on each dial.

Upgrade to a 5-star AC

A 1.5 ton 5-star AC vs 3-star, run 6 hrs/day, saves about ₹3,595.32/year in Haryana.

Tips to reduce your UHBVN bill

  • Where practical, keep usage below your next slab threshold — the marginal units above ₹6.45/unit cost the most.
  • For high-usage households, rooftop solar can offset your most expensive top-slab units — see the solar section above.

Net metering explained

Net metering lets a rooftop solar system export surplus power back to the grid through your existing meter, which runs in reverse. At billing time, your DISCOM credits the exported units against what you drew from the grid — you're billed only for the net difference. Combined with telescopic slabs, this typically offsets your most expensive units first. Estimate your solar payback →

About UHBVN

The Haryana State Electricity Board (HSEB) was unbundled on 14 August 1998, under the Haryana Electricity Reforms Act. Its distribution business was split geographically and transferred to two new companies — Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) — both commencing operations on 1 July 1999.

UHBVN serves northern Haryana: Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat, Rohtak and Jhajjar/Jind districts. DHBVN covers the south, including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hisar, Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Mewat and Rewari.

Does UHBVN supply electricity to Gurgaon?

No. Gurgaon (and Faridabad) are served by DHBVN (Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam), Haryana's southern discom. UHBVN covers the northern districts — Panchkula, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and others.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Haryana electricity tariff telescopic?

Yes. Haryana charges telescopically: each slab is billed at its own rate, so moving up a slab does not re-price your cheaper units.

What is the fixed charge for a Haryana domestic connection?

The fixed charge is ₹120 per kW of sanctioned load.

How accurate is this Haryana bill estimate?

It uses the published domestic slab rates and is a close estimate, not a billing-grade figure. FPPCA fuel surcharge and electricity duty are not modelled here. Always confirm against your official UHBVN bill.

Does UHBVN supply electricity to Gurgaon or Faridabad?

No. Both Gurgaon and Faridabad are served by DHBVN (Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam), not UHBVN. UHBVN covers northern Haryana — Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat, Rohtak and Jind — while DHBVN covers the south (including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hisar and Rewari).

How do I check or pay my UHBVN bill online?

Pay via the official portal at uhbvn.org.in. For queries or outages, call the toll-free helpline 1912 or 1800-180-1550.

What is UHBVN, and how did it form?

The Haryana State Electricity Board (HSEB) was unbundled on 14 August 1998 under the Haryana Electricity Reforms Act. Its distribution assets were split between Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN, north) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN, south), both commencing operations on 1 July 1999.
