Common JBVNL bill traps
It's a flat rate, so slab position doesn't matter
Unlike most states, every unit is billed at the same ₹6.85/unit (urban) regardless of how much you use — there's no telescopic discount for staying in a lower band, since there is no band.
The 200-free-units benefit isn't universal
Around 40 lakh of JBVNL's ~46 lakh domestic consumers get up to 200 free units a month, but this depends on scheme eligibility — check your account status rather than assuming it applies.
Rural rates are cheaper and not modelled here
This calculator uses the urban (DS-II) rate of ₹6.85/unit. Rural domestic (DS-I) connections are billed at a lower ₹6.70/unit with a different fixed charge, which isn't reflected in this estimate.

Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) was incorporated on 23 October 2013 and commenced operations on 6 January 2014, taking over the distribution business of the erstwhile Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) — itself formed when Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in 2000.
JBVNL operates through seven electric supply areas — Ranchi, Dhanbad, Singhbhum, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Dumka and Medininagar — covering cities including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Deoghar and Palamu.
